The Sony 200MP camera sensor may soon transform flagship smartphone photography. According to reliable leaks, both the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature this powerful new sensor. If true, Sony’s innovation will intensify the race for the best mobile camera in 2025.
Sony’s 200MP Sensor Features: Bigger, Brighter, Better
Sony is reportedly developing a new 200 MP camera sensor with a 1/1.1-inch type size, nearly matching a full 1-inch sensor. This larger size enables greater light intake, which means sharper images and better low-light performance. In comparison, Samsung’s current ISOCELL HP2 sensor in the Galaxy S25 Ultra measures 1/1.3 inches.
This would mark Sony’s first 200 MP sensor for main cameras. The source of the leak, Digital Chat Station, claims Sony aims to directly challenge Samsung’s dominance in this space.
Oppo Find X9 Ultra: Quad-Camera Beast in the Making
Oppo’s next flagship, the Find X9 Ultra, could debut this new Sony sensor as its main camera. According to leaks, the phone will maintain a quad-camera setup, building on the Find X8 Ultra but with serious upgrades:
- 200 MP main sensor (Sony)
- 50 MP ultrawide
- Two periscope telephoto lenses: one at 200 MP, another at 50 MP
- The 200 MP telephoto lens may also double as a macro camera
Besides the camera, leaks point to a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, a 6.82-inch flat OLED display with 2K+ resolution, and 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s expected to run on ColorOS 16 based on Android 16. The device might launch in March 2026, shortly after Chinese New Year. However, Oppo may keep the X9 Ultra exclusive to China.
Galaxy S26 Ultra: A Major Leap for Samsung
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra might also feature the same 1/1.1″ 200 MP Sony sensor. If so, it would be a step up from the ISOCELL HP2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The larger sensor could greatly improve image quality with better light capture.
The S26 Ultra could arrive in January 2026, but sources warn Samsung might delay using the Sony sensor until the Galaxy S27 Ultra in 2027. If both flagships ship with the same sensor, direct comparison becomes likely. Still, real competition may be limited, as Samsung holds little market share in China, and Oppo may not release the X9 Ultra globally.
