Battlefield 6 Beta Steam Player Count Breaks Record at 521K

The Battlefield 6 beta Steam player count has shocked the FPS community, hitting a record-breaking 521,079 concurrent players over a single weekend. With just two days of open access, EA’s flagship shooter not only shattered franchise records but also surpassed its biggest rival, Call of Duty, in Steam numbers.

Battlefield 6 Beta Joins Top FPS Games by Steam Player Count

Battlefield 6’s beta immediately positioned the game as a strong contender in the FPS space. It now ranks as the 18th most-played game ever on Steam by concurrent players. This feat is especially impressive since only titles like Counter-Strike, PUBG, and Apex Legends have reached similar heights.

More notably, Battlefield 6 surpassed every Call of Duty title on Steam. Call of Duty’s all-in-one app peaked at 491,670 players in November 2022, placing it two spots lower at 20th overall.

While these numbers are remarkable, they only tell part of the story. Call of Duty runs on multiple platforms such as Battle.net and Xbox Game Pass, which don’t reflect in Steam stats. Still, Battlefield 6’s beta performance stands out, especially when compared to Battlefield 2042, whose peak came two years post-launch — and was five times lower.

Why the Battlefield 6 Beta Outperformed COD on Steam

Several factors contributed to this successful rollout. EA delivered a well-optimized experience with fragmented downloads and modest hardware demands. Many players even noted that the beta ran better than the full versions of Battlefield 5 and 2042.

Demand surged so high that queues reached up to 250,000 players, with some waiting over 30 minutes to join a match. Viewership also exploded. On Twitch, Battlefield 6 peaked at 870,000 concurrent viewers, more than double the previous franchise high.

This Battlefield 6 beta Steam player count milestone puts it far ahead of any past entries in the franchise.

The FPS market also played a key role. Call of Duty’s latest title, Black Ops 7, received heavy criticism, which pushed many players to explore alternatives. Even casual gamers have shown interest. A former Blizzard executive predicted that Battlefield 6 might “boot stomp” Call of Duty this year, turning the rivalry into a real contest.

Despite the momentum, some caution remains. Past lessons, like Battlefield 2042’s hype-to-drop pattern, still linger. That beta drew 150,000 players, but numbers dipped quickly at launch.

Player feedback on Battlefield 6 varies. Some fans praise its return to classic Battlefield elements like those in BF3 and BF4. Others feel the game leans too heavily into Call of Duty’s style, citing smaller maps and fewer vehicles.

The game’s new anti-cheat system, Javelin, adds both promise and problems. While it blocked over 330,000 cheat attempts, its Secure Boot requirement caused headaches for some PC users.

Is Battlefield 6 the Comeback Fans Wanted?

The first beta ended shortly after this article’s release, but another open beta weekend runs from August 14 to 17. The full game launches this fall, with most sources pointing to October 6 or October 10, 2025, at a price of $70.

Early benchmarks show Ryzen 7 9800X3D outperforming Intel’s Core i9-14900K in Battlefield 6. With continued developer support and a growing player base, Battlefield may finally be staging its long-awaited comeback.

If the Battlefield 6 beta Steam player count is any indicator, EA may finally have a winning formula on its hands.
